Hellboy III – Possible, According to Guillermo del Toro

Angel of Death

Hellboy III has been trending on social media ever since Ron Perlman started his crusade - according to him, he'd want to finish the trilogy, but not when he'll be in a wheelchair (the guy is already 65 years old). We believe that he didn't even dream of such a response from the fans.

But still, it was all just a dream - as we were led to believe. It was day-dreaming, because nobody would back up a franchise which proved two times already to have a difficult time recouping its budget at the box office.

So does that mean that it is all over? Does that mean that the fans should stop thinking about Hellboy III?

Crowdfunding - or a multi-millionaire fan

Jokingly, after a post in which he announced that a new numeral was added to the Hellboy franchise, Ron Perlman said that the studios haven't changed their mind, even if so many fans asked for Hellboy III. According to him, the salvation can come from one of these fans - if one is a multimillionaire, of course.

Guillermo del Toro recently revealed that making Hellboy III would cost around $120 million, which is a rather decent amount, considering the budget of the modern day blockbusters. Ron Perlman is against crowdfunding - the fans should pay only when going to the cinema, and not for making the movie. So where could things go from here on?

Guillermo del Toro came back with an answer, which actually makes Hellboy III more than possible. Check out on the next page under which condition the studios will make this movie happen!

Hellboy III - still possible

First off, we need to say that the director remains skeptic about Hellboy III - even if he wants to make it happen. However, a window of opportunity has appeared.

And it is not in the DVD sales - the first 2 Hellboy movies made a ton of cash in this way, but only in this way. According to the director, he has been to all the major studios with his idea, but nobody wanted to risk losing money, or to invest such a sum for a very small profit at the box office.

However, Legendary Pictures offered the director a deal - not officially, of course. According to Guillermo del Toro, he must make his next movie become a major hit for the studio to back Hellboy III.

What does that mean? Check out on the next page!

Hellboy III"¦ depending on Pacific Rim II

The deal is to make Pacific Rim II a major hit - if this happens, then Legendary will consider giving del Toro the money for Hellboy III.

This kind of move has happened before. The one movie made just for another to appear that we think of is Lethal Weapon IV. Mel Gibson agreed to star again in the Lethal Weapon franchise, on the condition that he'll receive financing for The Passion of the Christ. Lethal Weapon IV doubled its budget worldwide, while The Passion of the Christ made more than $600 million on a budget of $30 million.

So there is at least this one precedent. But can Pacific Rim II become a huge box office hit? The first movie had a huge budget, of $190 million, and made just $400 million worldwide (as a comparison, the Amazing Spider-Man franchise was buried when its second movie made $700 million worldwide"¦)

So, in the end, what are the chances? We can expect for Pacific Rim II to have just about the same budget as the first one, if not bigger. And while the fans enjoyed the first movie, they weren't too keen on flocking to the cinemas to see it"¦

In other words, there is a huge possibility for Hellboy III to happen - on the condition that the fans will support Pacific Rim II when it comes on the 4th of August 2017. Check out the next page for more details from Guillermo del Toro.

A busy schedule

Justice League Dark

Guillermo del Toro is one of the busiest people in Hollywood, producing at least 6 major movies in the next couple of years, besides directing his own movies. So making Hellboy III would mean that he has to shelve one of his projects.

And this has happened already. Guillermo del Toro was in talks with Warner Bros for a Justice League Dark film, to appear sometime after Pacific Rim II (so, maybe, in 2019). However, the studio asked from him to hasten the project, for a 2017 release date - the same year in which Pacific Rim II will be released.

Having written already the script for Justice League Dark, the director had to make a choice - and he chose the latter. So his schedule is free after 2017. All that is needed is for the fans to go see Pacific Rim II. And Hellboy III will happen"¦
