The D-23 expo was a big success and drew as many as 18,000 people to the fanfest. Heart throbbing announcements for the fans, line-ups, unveiling trailers, and exclusive footage, turned out to be a tremendous event for Marvel. Even after laying out all of Phase 5 and parts of Phase 6, there were a lot of things unsaid and unanswered. The show took the fans by surprise and left in pondering. Take a look:
Fantastic Four
Arguably the most awaited announcement of the day! This one had so many speculations going around on casting, characters, and storyline of the Fantastic Four but instead got nothing. Rumors had it, Jodie Comer, Seth Rogen, and Henry Cavill as the casting. But there was no announcement from the Marvel king Kevin Feige. This was not something fans had signed up for!
The cast is presumably yet to be finalized yet and our hopes are high!
Deadpool 3
Another non-starter of the day was Deadpool 3. Everyone was dead sure that Ryan Reynolds will announce the title himself but there was no bird in sight. Whenever questioned, Marvel has said very less about the film and has not confirmed any facts officially. The writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick did confirm that they were working on the script but there has been no official information flow from the man himself.
Blade
Marvel’s Blade took us by surprise by unveiling some information on the big day. It is all set to be released on the 3rd of November next year under the directorship of Bassim Tariq. A partial star cast namely Mahershala Ali, Delroy Lindo, and Aaron Pierre was also revealed. But there was no sign of any animation, teaser, or trailer in sight. Still, better than the rest.
Wonder Man
When this Marvel Disney+ series was announced in the summer, we couldn’t contain our excitement. But surprisingly, there was no mention of this series at the fest. There was no insight on who would be playing the role of Wonder Man. The only piece of information that we have is that director Destin Daniel Cretton is producing this project. We are still awaiting updates on other projects by Cretton.
Shang-Chi 2
Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton was supposed to direct the sequel of this series but there has been no official announcement. Since he is going to be busy directing The Kang Dynasty for Phase 6 slot release, he hasn’t confirmed his return on the former.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos
The Comic-con provided us with a tentative premiere date for this one. It is said to be released in the fall of 2023. WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer will stay put for her project like old times. Kathryn Hahn will be returning as the title witch, which goes without saying. The casting updates are yet to be released but still, this one gave us a thumbs up.
X-Men, etc.
The so-called non-existent Marvel movie The Mutants did not find a stage at the Comic-con. There were not many speculations around its making, we’re glad! It would have been another heartbreak. Right now, we just have to sit and wait for the Mutant announcement to happen.
Phase 6 will arrive in 2024 and 2025 and we’re sure Marvel is power packed and geared up for big surprises for its fans!
