A new era for the Sorcerer Supreme is nearly upon us. Marvel Comics has released a brand new trailer for Doctor Strange #1, which hits stands next month. This will be an all new start for Stephen Strange, with an all new creative team behind the scenes. That consists of writer Jed MacKay (Moon Knight, Black Cat) and artist Pasqual Ferry (Namor: Conquered Shores, Spider-Man: Spider’s Shadow). What will they be getting up to? Let’s have a look.
The trailer is absolutely loaded down with lots of cosmic, magical imagery, not to mention quite a few big guest stars. Spider-Man, Doctor Doom, Black Cat and more drop in to pay a visit to Doctor Strange. Clea, one of his major love interests from over the years, is also present here, looking much like herself with a classic purple and black costume. There’s also plenty of monsters and magic being thrown around.
Here is the synopsis for Doctor Strange #1.
“Stephen Strange is back! Reunited with Clea and Wong, it’s back to business as usual for the Sorcerer Supreme. Have your children fallen into a deep nightmarish slumber? Are demonic refugees invading your home? Is your husband possessed by a satanic entity? Then call Doctor Strange!”
This is far from the first time that Doctor Strange has had his ongoing book relaunched over the years. That said, his title has been reset several times since 2016, when the character made his big screen debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Naturally, his profile was given a big boost in the public eye when Benedict Cumberbatch was cast to play him. Yet, his ongoing title just can’t seem to stick around for an extended period of time. Be that as it may, he has had a consistent presence as a front-facing A-lister in the comics for nearly a decade now, and that’s not going away any time soon.
The character returned to the MCU last year in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, following his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. The future is somewhat up in the air. Doctor Strange 3 has yet to be announced, though it doesn’t seem at all out of the question. It’s also very likely that Cumberbatch will show up in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Doctor Strange #1 hits stands on March 22.
