Assassin’s Creed Movie – Loads of New Stills Launched!

Tons of stills from Assassin's Creed out!

Duncan Jones' Warcraft isn't the only live-action movie based on a video game for 2016 - another one is yet to be released. With a script penned by Michael Lesslie, Adam Cooper, and Bill Collage, Justin Kurzel helms the Assassin's Creed movie, which will roll into theaters on this December 21. It has Michael Fassbender as its lead protagonist and a cast roster that includes Marion Cotillard, Ariane Labed, Jeremy Irons, Michael K. Williams, and Brendan Gleeson.

For a big budget movie that has already wrapped up its production and is around three months away from its release, this is the time to spark off the hype. And a studio like 20th Century Fox is well aware of that. So, to promote Assassin's Creed to the general audience, the studio has released a huge bunch of stills from the movie in the latest issue of Total Film (via Comic Book Movie).

The majority of the stills feature Michael Fassbender as Aguilar de Nerha, the fifteenth century Assassin. There are some in which we see him as Aguilar's modern-day descendant Callum Lynch. Jeremy Irons' Alan Rikkin, Marion Cotillard's Sophia Rikkin, Ariane Labed's Maria and Michael K. Williams' Moussa are among the supporting cast members who feature in these stills. And there are two magazine covers featuring Fassbender's Aguilar. Let's check them out below!

With a budget of around $170 to 200 million, Assassin's Creed is surely a big gamble for the studio, as movies based on video games have hardly ever impressed the critics and have also not managed to earn really big money. Right now, the highest grossing video game adaption is this year's Warcraft, which ended its box office run with a worldwide total of $433.5 million. Fox must be expecting to bag a lot more money from their upcoming project - perhaps around $700 to 800 million.

Here's the official synopsis for the Assassin's Creed movie:

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
