Aquaman Jason Momoa Looks Set to Star in The Crow Reboot

Jason Momoa, best known for his roles as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and as Aquaman in DC’s cinematic universe, looks set to star in the reboot of The Crow, the 1994 cult classic based on the graphic novel by James O’Barr.

According to Mashable, several people close to the project confirm that Momoa is currently in talks with Relativity to take on the mantle of Eric Draven, who was previously portrayed by Brandon Lee in what would tragically be his final film. Although The Crow had multiple sequels, none came close to the success of the first film, which began talks of a reboot.

After several false starts with stars like Tom Hiddleston, Bradley Cooper, Jack Huston, and Luke Evans, the reboot seems to have finally landed its male lead. Momoa shared a photo with Corin Hardy, the rising filmmaker set to direct the reboot, on Instagram. The Crow is the only movie Hardy is known to be casting right now, and the photo shows the two drinking Guinness with hashtags #sealthedeal, #greatnewstocome and #dreamjob.

Regarding his current stint as Aquaman for DC’s upcoming films, the discussion included finding a way to work around filming schedules, though The Crow is expected to be released in cinemas before the Aquaman solo movie in 2018. Momoa was briefly introduced as Arthur Curry in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year, but will have a bigger role in next year’s Justice League.

The Crow follows the story of a man who returns from the dead to avenge his and his fiancé’s deaths. The acclaimed 1994 film directed by Alex Proyas was a critical and box office success, and its reboot represents a major milestone for Relativity’s climb out of bankruptcy.

Momoa is perhaps a controversial choice for the lead role, and is a much different take on the character than Jack Huston (Ben Hur), the actor most recently signed to star in the film, who left due to numerous delays on the project. Hardy, however, stuck with the film instead of pursuing other projects, so Relativity is sticking with him.
