Wolverine 3 is not necessarily a top priority for Marvel right now. In particular if we consider 2016 will see the release of no less than three movies of the X-Men franchise. Let's recollect: Deadpool will hit theaters February 12th, X-Men: Apocalypse is currently set to arrive May 27th, whereas Gambit comes to theaters October 7th.
March 3, 2017, which is the release date of Wolverine 3, seems like an eternity away. However, that won't stop the rumor mill. But did you expect Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman to already start teasing the sequel? Just to avoid rabbiting on, here's how things are: Wolverine 3 might be in the cards for Jackman and Stewart both.
Patrick Stewart in Wolverine 3?
Oregon Live quotes Patrick Stewart, and in his words, that's how things look like: "And what I’m very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together. Wolverine and Professor Xavier. That would be a very different sort of “X-Men” from the four movies that I’ve already done."
The irony is Stewart wasn't even asked about Wolverine 3. Instead, he was asked about his appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse. Surprisingly, Stewart reveals "it seems to be very unlikely that I will be in the next “X-Men” movie, which is almost getting ready to start shooting in Montreal. ["¦] But Magneto, Ian McKellen, is certainly going to be in it."
Which practically invalidates what the actor has just announced in January: that neither he nor colleague Ian McKellen will play in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Hugh Jackman's side of the story
When asked about the validity of Stewart's announcement, Jackman said: "I’m not going to deny it. I’ve learned over the years to try and put my best poker face on. By the way, play poker with me if you want to win some money, because I’m terrible. But, I’ve always seen it as a really important relationship, and we started with that and I think it’s a really important one. I think it would be really great to see it in the Wolverine movie, because we haven’t really explored it in the standalone Wolverine movies. So it’s not not not not not going to happen."
Well, does this row of "not"s means Stewart is on board with Wolverine 3? While I'd personally love to see the two X-Men veterans teaming up for a new movie, a teaser is a teaser. Do you think Patrick Stewart will return as Professor X in Wolverine 3? Have your say below!
