The last trailer of X-Men: Apocalypse has already launched, and we can surely say now that the yet-to-be-titled third Wolverine movie is not going to be a ONE LAST TIME go-around for Hugh Jackman as the clawed mutant. He will be portraying the character in the upcoming May 27 release. However, the March 3, 2017 release will evidently be the last time he dons the adamantium-coated claws.
With the movie expected to kick off filming next month, 20th Century Fox seems to be quite busy shaping up its cast roster. And Deadline has confirmed that the most recent addition to that roster is English actor Stephen James Merchant.
The outlet is sure about the actor's deal to join Wolverine 3, but it offered no details regarding what character he would be portraying in the movie. He’s joining a cast that already features Hugh Jackman as the titular superhero, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Boyd Holbrook as the lead villain, and Richard E. Grant as a villainous mad scientist.
Stephen Merchant’s main genre is comedy, and he’s best known for co-creating, writing, directing, and starring in the BBC Two sitcom The Office and the HBO series Hello Ladies. With his strong background in comedy, it seems likely that his lighter side would be coming into play in Wolverine 3"¦maybe a humorous sidekick, or something like that.
However, we must not forget that his villainous voicing of Wheatley in the video game Portal 2 received high praise. So, we can't just ignore the possibility that Stephen Merchant could play a villain of some sort in Wolverine 3.
Could he be playing a mutant role in the James Mangold flick? Well, I would say that’s highly unlikely.
