Ever since the first X-Men appeared in 2000, moviegoers have developed an appetite for superhero movies - some of them were good, some of them were bad but, all in all, this genre has become so prolific in the last years that we have now at least 4 superhero movies per year.
The marketing works very good, one might say considering the fact that even the worst ones still made a ton of cash. And the bases of these campaigns are always the trailers - these are the short clips which get the fans excited and craving for more.
But which trailers for the 2014 superhero movies were the best? You might be surprised, so keep reading!
-
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
While the movie in itself can be considered only a moderate success, with $477 million worldwide on a budget of $125, this film has managed to secure a second outing of the turtles, a sequel scheduled for 2016. As far as its trailers are concerned, it can be said that they did a pretty good job, given the final product (which disappointed most of the fans).

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
This film was the one that definitely had to surpass its predecessor - and it did exactly that, proving to be not just a box office hit ($714 million worldwide on a budget of $170 million), but also a success with the critics. But even from the trailers we could see that the change that was needed already took place (even if the first trailer started with some"¦ erm"¦ jokes), proving that Marvel wasn't just all about gags, but also about seriousness.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
Being both a sequel and a prequel and having the role of rebooting the franchise, the odds didn't seem in the favor of X-Men: Days of Future Past. The trailers looked awesome, but even so they were far away from what the entire movie had to offer: more mutants than ever, more special abilities, a buffer than ever Hugh Jackman and a fight to save the humans and the mutants alike (without mentioning the trailers, this was the best superhero movie of 2014). The movie made $746 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
This movie must have had the most aggressive marketing campaign, with quite a few trailers, countless clips and so on - however, despite making $708 million worldwide on a budget of $250 million, the movie is considered a flop, basically neutering the franchise and making the Sony bosses reconsider their future plans. However, the first trailer was nothing short than amazing, with tons of Easter Eggs announcing the future films and a glimpse of a very exciting final fight - however, the end product contradicted all of the trailers.

Guardians of the Galaxy
Confidence - this is what all the trailers and clips suggested. And Marvel was right to be so: $772 million worldwide on a budget of just $170 million. Yeah, you're welcome!
