[This post contains possible SPOILERS for Thor: Ragnarok"¦Readers, ye be warned!]
By revealing the Hulk's gladiator armor during this year's San Diego Comic-Con International, Marvel Studios confirmed that they are going to adapt the Planet Hulk storyline at least to certain extent in Thor: Ragnarok. Now, Schmoes Know has come up with what seem to be some really exciting details about how the studio will be doing that.
According to the website, the Taika Waititi venture's title doesn't refer to the popular Ragnarök storyline from the comics in which Thor dies and Asgard is destroyed. Rather, Ragnarok is actually the name of a planet on which Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo's superheroes arrive during the movie. This planet, as per their sources, will have "a Gladiator meets Mad Max aesthetic".
And this is the planet where Thor and Hulk end up "having to fight their way out in the arenas". The arenas in Thor: Ragnarok are run by Jeff Goldblum's The Grandmaster. Karl Urban's Skurge serves as "a rather tough enforcer" for The Grandmaster, and plays "a big part" in the movie's plot.
Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie is a contestant in the gladiator arena of Thor: Ragnarok, and Thor makes her acquaintance during the fights. They "earn each other's respect", and team up to figure out a means of escape from the planet. Somehow, Skurge comes to realize that he's been on the wrong side and lends them a hand in their getaway.
While the website cannot provide more details about how all this pans out in the November 3, 2017 release, it speculates that the survival of Asgard depends on the superheroes finding their way off the planet Ragnarok.
Waititi recently teased via an Instagram post the return of Korg, whom we saw being destroyed by a single blow from Mjolnir in Thor: The Dark World. The character did feature as a gladiator battle opponent for the Hulk in the Planet Hulk storyline, so we might get to see him squaring off with the Norse God of Thunder and the Green Rage Monster in Thor: Ragnarok.
