The days of the "Thoréal - Because Hemsworth It" memes have come to an end. The Norse God of Thunder is on the cover of the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly – without his signature flowing locks. The issue also offers us a first look at Hela and Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok.
Chris Hemsworth told EW that he’s glad he no longer has to spend as much time getting his hair done every morning. He added that he felt it was like "a rebirth", not only for himself as an actor, but also for the character.
In addition to the change in hairstyle, Thor will undergo a costume upgrade. And Mjolnir, the superhero's iconic weapon, is nowhere to be found. On the magazine cover, he wields two massive swords.
We've seen official concept art featuring Cate Blanchett as Hela and a bunch of set photos featuring Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, but none of this beats this first-look cover. Speaking with EW about her Goddess of Death, Blanchett said:
She's been locked away for millennia, getting more and more cross, and then, with a mistake, she gets unleashed, and she ain't getting back in that box.
The magazine's website revealed that Thor is sent to Sakaar as a result of Hela's attack. On the new planet, Hemsworth's character is forced to become a gladiator and fight for his life in the arena. According to the Aussie actor:
[Sakaar is] basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers. No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst.
Apart from the cover, EW released a bunch of Thor: Ragnarok photos of the titular superhero, the new female characters, AND Tom Hiddleston's Loki, Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner, and Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster.
