Readers, be warned! This article contains MAJOR Avengers: Infinity War SPOILERS!
We’ve had confirmation that the Skrulls will make their Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain Marvel, but a new rumor suggests that they could also show up in Avengers 4.
In the Avengers: Infinity War post-credits scene, Nick Fury uses a device to reach out to Carol Danvers. According to MCU Cosmic, his reason for doing so is that he mistakes Thanos' genocidal mission for a Skrull invasion.
The release of Captain Marvel should clarify Nick’s misapprehension. Set in the 1990s, the movie revolves around a war between the Krees and the Skrulls. We recently shared several photos of a more youthful Samuel L. Jackson with a costumed Brie Larson that appear to back this up.
In the Marvel Comics Infinity Gauntlet story, Thanos' lethal finger-snap touches off a rematch between the two alien races, each of whom holds the other accountable for the sudden loss of a large number of citizens. MCU Cosmic predicts that events in the fourth Avengers installment will be similar.
It looks as though Infinity War absentee Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) will somehow wind up in charge of hunting down the Skrulls after they land in Tokyo and disguise themselves as Yakuza members. Set photos from October 2017 indicate that Hawkeye will undergo a complete makeover and possibly appear in his Ronin persona in the May 3, 2019 release.
MCU Cosmic cautions that since the Skrulls’ role in Avengers 4 will be relatively minor, we shouldn’t expect the film to be an adaptation of Secret Invasion. On the other hand, the movie could lay the groundwork for the post-Phase Three MCU to explore the storyline further.
