The Most Powerful Mutants in the Marvel Universe

X-men movies and cartoons have been around for quite some time, and even though the movies had a lot inconsistencies, the last one, "Days of  Future Past", made sure that they were all erased properly. What we all love about X-men is undoubtedly the mutants and their powers, however, in the movies we never got to see the most powerful mutants, and even the powers of the most potent mutants were not explained properly.

Mutants with godlike abilities are referred to as "Omega Mutants", and for anyone who hasn't read the comic books, the omega mutants are probably Jean Grey, Magneto, Xavier, and Storm. Well buckle up, for here is a list of the most epic homo superiors in the Marvel universe.

Jean Grey aka Phoenix

Let's start with the one we all know, Jean Grey. She is an empath and has telekinetic abilities at the same time, plus she is favoured by the Phoenix Force. What movies failed to explain is the origin and details about the Phoenix Force itself. Phoenix Force is a cosmic entity which embodies a life that is yet to come into existence, which basically means it is some sort of god.

Usually, a powerful empath like Jean Grey is entitled to be the incarnate of this primal cosmic energy. Since it is an entity that operates on such a high level of power, it is hard to reason with it on a human level, which makes it a dreadful opponent. When Jean is possessed by the phoenix, all of her existing powers receive a gigantic boost, plus she can manipulate molecules in order to create heat.

Bobby Drake aka Iceman

Yep that kid who can freeze things and really help you out when you need cold beer is actually an Omega level mutant. The thing is, Bobby is not aware of his potential, and his true ability remained unknown for a very long time. His merits were revealed once Emma Frost possessed him and tapped into the very core of his mutant ability. While Emma was inside Iceman she was able to control moisture, which is significantly better than simply creating ice.

She could freeze liquids inside other people's body, assume either liquid, solid or gaseous form, which means Iceman can control anything that contains liquid or moisture.  Additionally, Bobby discovered that he can create ice sculptures with a mind of their own, which pretty much classifies him as omega level godlike mutant.

Hope Summers

If you don't know Hope Summers is, she is a mutant from the future who is, according to one prophecy, a messiah and the undoing of humankind according to another. Now, let's focus on her ability. Hope can absorb any existing power, meaning that, if the conditions are right, she can do just about anything. Like Jean Grey, Hope is also one of the phoenix incarnate, which justifies the two prophecies mentioned before. Furthermore, she has displayed a lot of unspecified abilities, like immunity to Rouge's power steal, or the ability to erase all the powers Rouge has stored. Perhaps by acquiring the power she gains insight into how it works and how to counter it.

Franklin Richards

Here comes a really good one, Franklin Richards a kid who can literally do whatever he wants. How? Well, Franklin has the power to warp reality according to his will and even create alternate realities, and in these realities his favourite heroes are always unharmed. There are theories that Franklin’s existence is responsible for why time does not flow at the same pace in the world of Marvel comics.

So, despite how many years have passed, Spiderman is almost always young in Marvel comics. He, is basically a tool that writers use to justify the questions which always bugged the comic book audience. Since Franklin likes the heroes and villains of this universe, they never seem to age, or change for that matter.

Matthew Malloy

Almost exactly like Franklin, Matthew can alter reality as he sees fit. This character was introduced recently in the issues of Uncanny X-men. Since Matthew has this dangerous ability, Professor X placed mental barriers, in order to prevent him from using them. I wouldn't like to spoil the entire  story for you, and why we never seem to see or hear from Matthew in the current comics, but I heavily suggest you read Uncanny X-men Vol.3 if you want to see how this issue was resolved.

Wade Wilson aka Deadpool

Ahem"¦ Deadpool is not a mutant but a mutated human, and his abilities are not innate abilities, what the hell? Before you lash out, bear with me for a moment and allow me to elaborate on this statement. Deadpool is an immortal, with a powerful healing factor, and he is an incredibly skilled mercenary, and to top it all off, he is even immune to mind control.

Yes, all of these abilities were given to him and are not his innate mutant perks, but if he was a mutant and at the same time had all of these powers bestowed upon him, he would be one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel universe. Now let's explain why Deadpool should, perhaps, be considered a mutant.

Deadpool stated on multiple occasions that he is a mutant, and even though we can't hold him as a reliable source of information, we know that he has a tendency to break the 4th wall. So, it could be that he is trying to give the readers a hint, rather than simply messing around with other Marvel characters.

Think about it, Marvel's definition of mutation states the following – "genetic abnormalities which grants them abilities, an appearance, or powers beyond the normal variation expressed in the human genome." Now think about Deadpool, he has a cancer that is extremely aggressive unlike any other cancer noted in the history of humans. In other words, what if his cancer is a mutation. It was never stated that a mutation needs to be beneficial for someone's well-being in order for that person to be classified as a mutant.

Deadpool's healing factor has to work twice as hard in order to repair all the damage done by his cancer, or let's call it super cancer. If anyone else were to steal his healing factor, that person would explode from their cells replicating at such a rapid pace. Yes, it was never explicitly stated that Deadpool is a mutant, but it is a good topic for comic book fans to think about.
