In the comics, the Ragnarok is a universal event in which all the 9 realms are almost completely destroyed. After fierce battling, almost all (if not all) the gods are killed "“ but this isn't the end, since they will be reborn.

However, Thor has the power to stop this circle of life and death and, basically, stop the apocalypse. At which point he enters hibernation "“ pretty much like we have already seen Odin do. Rest assured, he will wake just in time in order to confront Thanos, who will easily defeat him. Just like in the comics. Whether killed or not, this will mean the end of the Mighty Thor.
