It has been quite a week now, with Spider-Man crossing over into Marvel Studios' territory. And this won't happen in any way we have believed, since the first movie in which he will appear is Captain America: Civil War - be honest: did you believe, after the Sony leak, that such a thing will happen?
Now we have the answer and most of us are glad about it. The Spider-Man movies have been on a downward spiral ever since Sam Raimi directed the third part of the original franchise. Furthermore, hearing about Sony's plans for expanding its own cinematic universe (with even Aunt May having planned a spin-off in which she was supposed to be a spy) made us shiver.
Spider-Man - a full reboot
That is right: it will be yet another full reboot for the web slinger, the second one in the course of not even 5 years. To make it even clearer, Andrew Garfield is out and that doesn't surprise us a bit, especially since we know how he lashed out at the studio after The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
And yes: all of Sony's plans are also scratched, including in here the Sinister Six spin-off, which was supposed to be released in 2016 - most likely, the movie will be further delayed until a proper script is found.
An unlikely team-up
No, we aren't talking about Spider-Man appearing in the MCU - but rather in how Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will work together to bring the crawler on the big screens again, in his own solo movie, in 2017 (the 28th of July).
And this unlikely team-up has already had several effects, one of them being Marvel's decision of postponing some of its movies - for examples, the Inhumans will be released after Avengers: Infinity War Part II, even if the Inhumans have played an important part in Marvel's cosmic story-lines.
Peter and not Miles
Rumors have started to grow on the internet as soon as the news was out - and one of the strongest rumors was that Marvel wants Miles Morales as Spider-Man. However, it won't be so, as Doug Belgrad, president at Sony Movies, has said.
But don't think for a second that Sony will have the chance of interfering again with the creative process - only Kevin Feige and his team will have a word to say about it. After all, it appears that Sony asked for Marvel's help and not the other way around.
Why?
It is simple - Sony didn't own the merchandise rights for Spider-Man and Marvel threatened to pull a Fantastic Four on the rival studio. And this happened after Marvel tried to regain the rights of the franchise (before 2012) by offering Sony billions"¦
Where are we now? For the time being, Sony still has the rights - however, as anybody might suspect, this is the first step taken by Marvel to reacquiring the rights of its most well-known superhero.
Lastly, what do we know?
Pretty much nothing - we just know what won't happen any longer. It is a sort of numbness - something cool happened, although we have no idea what and how will that affect us.
X-Men and Fantastic Four
Right"¦ Let's just wait for Fantastic Four to come out and not jump to any conclusions/wishful thinking.
