Recently, the date for Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man reboot was moved for July 7, 2017. Following this announcement, the studios divulged through a press release that the reboot will be released in IMAX and IMAX 3D.
Sony President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution Josh Greenstein said that the action in the movie will look great on the IMAX screen: "There's so much about Spider-Man - including the web-slinging action - that lends itself perfectly to the IMAX screen."
"IMAX's long-standing relationship with Marvel and Sony first began with Spider-Man in 2002, establishing the ultimate way for fans to be transported into the world of their favorite characters like Peter Parker. By re-teaming with our friends at Sony and Marvel on the newest Spider-Man reboot, we are excited to deliver audiences what they're asking for: a must-see cinematic adventure - in IMAX." CEO of IMAX Entertainment added.
The press release says nothing about the technology used for the filming of Spider-Man reboot
Marvel has collaborated with IMAX in the past, shooting some scenes from Captain America: Civil War with IMAX technology, and Avengers: Infinity Wars was shot exclusively with IMAX cameras. As for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, the press release does not mention anything about what shooting technology will they be using.
The production for the currently untitled Spider-Man reboot has not begun yet, and little is known about the movie. We know that Tom Holland stars as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Marisa Tomei as his Aunt May. Jon Watts will direct the reboot. The script is penned by the team of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein who revealed that it won’t be an origin story. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal from Marvel are producing.
