While we haven't even seen the first Spider-Man movie in the MCU, it appears as if the plans for the future of the web-crawler are already being written. This shouldn't come as a surprise, since Marvel has always planned ahead. For example, Phase II hadn't even begun, and we already knew that movies were being planned until 2020 and that three phases would lead to an Infinity War.
So why should this be different with Spider-Man, and where is the surprise? Well, according to Bleeding Cool, we may have found out what storyline Marvel and Sony are planning to adapt after Homecoming. The website reports that Sony employees have started buying particular issues of the Spider-Man comic books.
The website says that the 1992 Web of Spider-Man series is being bought in massive amounts by Sony. Since it can't be research for Spider-Man: Homecoming, it must be for future installments.
What is interesting is that the series features a number of iconic web-crawler villains. One that would have a connection with Homecoming (the comic book and not the movie) is the return of the Symbiote suit, which once again tries to bond with Peter Parker.
The other villain is Kraven the Hunter, with the well-known storyline Kraven's Last Hunt. Is this a hint that Sony and Marvel are looking at adapting this iconic story? It might be. Although we do believe that the Venom connection is a bit stronger.
Lastly, and as CBM also reports, Sony may want to introduce a rather unknown superhero named Nightwatch. It's pretty difficult to see Marvel accepting, when there are so many other heroes and villains connected to Spider-Man. Furthermore, Nightwatch's origin story deals with time-travel and nanotechnology, neither of which has appeared yet in the MCU.
