20th Century Fox has already released their two X-Men Universe movies for this year - the surprisingly awesome Deadpool and the shockingly not-so-awesome X-Men: Apocalypse. What's next on their slate?
To be honest, we don't have a very clear idea, at least not as clear as we have about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe.
We know that a third, yet-to-be-titled, Wolverine movie is coming on March 3, 2017 and it has already kicked off its filming. We also know that Deadpool 2, Gambit, New Mutants and a mainline X-Men movie are in the works.
But we’re not sure about when these X-Men Universe ventures will start production or when they will arrive at the theaters.
That Hashtag Show recently caught up with Simon Kinberg, writer/producer of multiple X-Men Universe movies, at the 2016 Saturn Awards. When they asked him about what is to come next for the X-Men Universe, he said:
The first thing up, we're shooting the Wolverine movie right now, and we start shooting Deadpool 2 at the beginning of next year, then I sit down and start writing the next of the mainline X-Men movies.
20th Century Fox had scheduled Channing Tatum starrer Gambit for a late-2016 release, but the movie has faced a number of setbacks, and now we don't even know if it’s coming anytime soon.
However, during the concise interview, Kinberg shared some good news about Gambit:
We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning of spring of next year.
The writer/producer also offered an update regarding Josh Boone's New Mutants. According to Kinberg:
(There's) a really good script, and (we’re) hoping to shoot that one real soon, too.
Kinberg refrained from giving away anything on the movie's cast roster, but claimed that its script is "very loyal to the comics".
