Captain America: Civil War has a lot of characters that we’ve previously seen in Marvel productions. It’s set in stone that Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther will appear in Captain America 3, but there’s a character who was cut.
In the first stages of production, Hope Van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp was part Civil War’s script, appearing in at least one draft.
However, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Marcus McFeely decided that The Wasp should not appear in Captain America 3, and they have few reasons.
Captain America 3 vs. Ant Man and The Wasp, who’s first to have Hope Van Dyne in?
So the first reason that led to cutting The Wasp out of Captain America 3 was that the character should make its grand debut in Peyton Reed's Ant Man and The Wasp.
"There was a period where we talked about bringing Wasp in. There was actually a draft Wasp was in because she was so almost on the edge of being in Ant-Man, but then you're taking something awesome out of the Ant-Man team's quiver if it's like, "˜Well, we're doing her!' Plus she had a similar skill set, so it's like "˜Well, maybe we just isolate it to Scott,’" McFeely explained.
And another reason, as McFeely reveals, is that they want to keep Ant-Man as a solo hero and not get him attached to others, which might happen if The Wasp appears in Captain America 3.
"When you see the movie, you see that Scott is his own comic relief so it would change that a little bit. They would be this pair. Everybody else we would talk about them and then they'd go away, but we got most everybody back." (via CBS)
It would’ve been lovely for The Wasp’s fans to have a first look at the character in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, but think about Ant Man! Let’s wait for the big debut in 2018!
