Russo Brothers talk about Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4!

The Russo Brothers may have been making movies for around a decade and a half, but they rose to prominence in Hollywood in recent years with the last two Captain America movies, The Winter Soldier and Civil War. And Marvel Studios has already hired them to direct two of their upcoming mega-event movies, Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled Avengers 4.

The two Avengers movies were actually known as Infinity War - Part 1 and Part 2, until this July, when the studio retitled them. In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, the filmmaking duo explains why they discarded the original titles. Joe Russo says:

We wanted the movie to be very different and distinctive, you know. There’s certainly cross-pollination between characters and some story-arcs, but you know, the first movie is very clearly Avengers: Infinity War and, in time, we will reveal what the second film is.

When they are asked about when exactly we can expect the title of Avengers 4 to be revealed, Anthony Russo suggests that we will learn that, but "not for quite some time".

Even though the Russo Brothers claim that Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel are going to be two very different movies, they still believe that these movies will be "the culmination of everything that has happened" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since the 2008 flick Iron Man.

That's what they suggest in another recent interview, this time with IGN. Anthony explains:

In being a culmination, these movies are in some ways going to be an end to certain things, and in some ways, they’re going to be the beginning of certain things.

The directors won't reveal specifically what will begin with Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel. However, they do respond to a question about whether personal preference or story demands rule their decisions on choosing characters for the movies.

According to the Russo Brothers, it is "a little bit of both", as they always have to make their choices "feel organic to the storytelling" and they have to structure them in the way that "they need to be there". Anthony adds:

You have to have them, or they shouldn’t be in the movie. It’s a little bit of a dance between the two, where you have big eyes, and you want everybody included in the movie, but you have to go through the process of…what’s the best story that you can tell.

Share your thoughts on these tidbits offered by the directors of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers, and stay tuned for all the latest!
