We’ve been hearing rumors that Ryan Coogler will be at the helm of Black Panther, but today the rumors were officially confirmed by Marvel. It seems that the 29-year-old actor will direct the first T'Challa’s superhero solo flick. Coogler expressed in the past his love for the iconic superhero, and now he has the chance to be the most important part of the project.
Marvel has just announced their top choice to direct Black Panther on their official page:
"We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family. The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct "˜Black Panther.' Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we've found the perfect director to bring T'Challa's story to life."
At 29, Coogler has earned success with his devastating drama Fruitvale Station and now he is enjoying critical acclaim with Creed. But, sadly for Warner Bros. and MGM, Coogler cannot direct Creed sequel as Black Panther is scheduled for a 2018 release and Creed for 2017.
Coogler is the best director for Black Panther
The studio had eyed Ava DuVerna (Selma) too but they haven’t come to a common approach of the movie. Ryan Coogler must be the perfect choice for this massive project Marvel has been in talks with the director for months, which points that the decision was strongly analyzed.
In the role of T’Challa we will see Chadwick Boseman, but we will meet the prince of Wakanda before its solo flick in Captain America: Civil War. The production will add another grand project to Coogler‘s portfolio and everyone expects great results from the young director.
We’ll meet Black Panther on May 6 this year in Captain America: Civil War and we’ll see what Marvel and Coogler are up to regarding the solo flick February 2018.
