Since New Mutants began filming in Boston in July, Josh Boone and his team have done a commendable job of keeping the project under wraps. Not one photo or video has leaked from the set. But the director apparently sympathizes with the fans, and has provided a first look at the movie's logo.
Boone took to Instagram to share a photo of a clapperboard bearing what might or might not be the final, official New Mutants logo. It bears a striking resemblance to the team's original Marvel Comics logo, except for the blood spatters.
In an interview that took place earlier this year, the director commented that the X-Men spin-off would be "a full-fledged horror movie". The logo is a strong indication that he wasn't overstating. Check out the photo below!
A few days ago, Deadline reported that New Mutants had already wrapped up production. However, Boone captioned the photo, "Last week shooting", indicating that there was actually some work left to do.
The mutants taking center stage in the April 13, 2018 release are Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy), Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams), Cannonball (Charlie Heaton), Sunspot (Henry Zaga), and Mirage (Blu Hunt). So far, the only additional cast member that we know of is Alice Braga, who’s playing medical doctor Cecilia Reyes. Boone collaborated on the script with his friend Knate Lee.
Considering that New Mutants is set to hit theaters in seven months or so, and no other X-Men installment is scheduled for release before that, we should see some marketing materials fairly soon. We could have an official poster, or even a teaser trailer, within the next couple of months.
