It appears that a girl can have a couple of names, after all. She’s not only Arya Stark of Winterfell, but also Rahne Sinclair of the X-Men Universe!
Almost a year ago, we came across a rumor suggesting that Maisie Williams, best known for playing Arya Stark in HBO's Game of Thrones, would be joining Josh Boone's New Mutants as Rahne Sinclair, aka Wolfsbane. Later, the actress expressed interest in playing the part, and also seemed to indicate that she had been approached to audition. However, no announcement was made by 20th Century Fox – or anyone involved with the project – during the following months.
But now, the New Mutants director has seemingly confirmed that a deal has been sealed. Via his official Twitter account, Boone shared a piece of art that depicts Williams as Wolfsbane. Boone tweeted:
Wolfsbane by Mid-World’s very own @AshleyRGuillory @Maisie_Williams.
Check out the artwork below!
Whether this is an official piece of New Mutants concept art is still unclear. But it should be noted that the artist also created the Demon Bear concept art. So it's unlikely that it’s just fan-art.
The comic books have depicted Wolfsbane in different ways over the years. At times, she’s shape-shifted into a full-on wolf, and other times into a wolf-like humanoid. We can't be sure whether the character will look as depicted in the artwork in New Mutants, or whether she's in the middle of her transformation.
Apart from Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nat Wolff have also been rumored to have joined the movie. While the former is linked to the character Magik, the latter is reportedly being eyed for the role of Cannonball. It’s been confirmed that James McAvoy will return as Professor X. Alexandra Shipp may also reprise her role as Storm from last year's X-Men: Apocalypse.
With New Mutants moving into production in May, we can expect to come across more casting updates in the next few months.
