Kurt Russell, the star of so many cult favorite films, has long been rumored to have a part in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, with the best chances being for him to portray the father of Star Lord. Are those rumors true?
Well, the actor did shed some light on the issue, while promoting Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful 8. And while the rumors say that he has already got the part, the actor revealed something else entirely. Thus, Kurt Russel did say that he has talked with Marvel - literally, even if only on the phone. But then again, he also confessed that he hasn't seen the first part yet, even if he heard only good things about it.
As a matter of fact, the actor didn't even know that James Gunn directed the 2014 hit, thus implying that he thinks highly of the director.
But with whom did the actor talk? He talked with James Gunn himself, who apparently wants Russell in a (still unknown/unconfirmed) role in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. And what was his answer? In a nutshell, he didn't give one just yet.
Here's what the actor said: "Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can't bring anything for you [right now]. I've got nothing to offer here. So, I'm amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do… it's a little weird." (via Comic Book Movie)
To be mentioned, Kurt Russell isn't the only big name rumored to play Peter Quill's father. The other even-bigger name is none other than Al Pacino - but it is safe to assume at this moment that the Scarface star won't be seen in a Marvel property any time soon.
Back to Russell, the actor also said during an interview with Wall Street Journal that talks are underway with Marvel at the moment, even if there is just nothing to talk about at the moment. What does that mean, though? We bet that it doesn't mean anything at all and that the actor doesn't want to reveal too much just yet.
