In the past week, Kevin Feige has talked about everything concerning the Marvel Cinematic Universe, giving us updates on Doctor Strange's role in the shared universe, the new director for Captain Marvel, Thor, and others. Most interestingly, he has also hinted at the next big villain of the MCU, who might just be the ruler of a Dark Dimension.
Of course, this has led to several questions from the casual audiences, those who haven't had the chance to explore the comic book universe. Thus, when mentioning a different dimension, did Kevin Feige talk about alternate Universes? And, if so, could this be the doorway to bringing other characters (currently not owned by Marvel) into the MCU?
The Marvel boss explained that this isn't exactly the case. While some might believe that Doctor Strange opens the possibility of alternate Universes, the movie will instead explore the existence of planes with other types of dimensions than the ones in the MCU. Here is the full quote, via CBM:
When comic book fans hear parallel dimensions or multiple dimensions, they think of Earth 616 and Earth 617 or Earth 618. That's all possible, but what we're playing with in this world is that there are dimensions. That the other dimensions are not just parallel realities.
Furthermore, Kevin Feige also said that, at this point, it’s difficult to talk about alternate realities in the MCU. Nonetheless, this doesn't mean that sometime in the future this option won't be explored:
We're playing as much with the multiverse as alien dimensions, for lack of a better term, than as parallel realities where there's a Strange that wears Iron Man armor! We're not there yet.
