Back in June, we learned that 30 Rock and Broad City star Hannibal Buress had joined Spider-Man: Homecoming to play an undisclosed part. And now, the actor-cum-comedian himself has revealed what role he has in the Marvel Cinematic Universe installment.
While the character he is portraying in the movie may not be a very interesting one, there's something very interesting about his portraying the particular character. In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club (via Comic Book Movie), Hannibal shares:
In Spider-Man, I play a gym teacher. I play one of the dumbass characters that don’t realize he’s Spider-Man. [My character thinks,] “He's Peter Parker. Oh man, this guy's really athletic!”
As I mentioned above, there is hardly anything attractive about his character - he's just someone on the faculty of the Midtown School of Science and Technology.
However, this is the very same character that the allegedly leaked cast sheet for Spider-Man: Homecoming suggested he is playing. According to the cast sheet, he is referred to in the movie as Coach Wilson.
So, Hannibal Buress' disclosure about his character can be considered as pretty strong evidence in favor of the cast sheet's authenticity. It doesn't seem to be just a possibly forged piece of paper anymore.
And that means that Angourie Rice is indeed playing Betty Brant; Tiffany Espensen is indeed playing Cindy Moon, aka Silk; and Kenneth Choi is indeed playing Principal Morita, a descendant of Howling Commando Jim Morita.
Of course, there are still a number of Spider-Man: Homecoming actors - Michael Mando, Logan Marshall-Green, and Donald Glover - whose names weren't featured in the cast sheet. So, we haven't seen their roles brought to light yet.
But with the Jon Watts venture more than ten months away from rolling into theaters, it's safe to assume that we will come across a lot of rumors, scoops, and confirmations related to the movie between now and then.
