Unlike the original movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 won’t be a "surprise" blockbuster, because everyone is expecting it to shatter box office records! The footage we've seen in trailers and TV spots leaves us in no doubt - it has to be the most anticipated Marvel movie of 2017.
While the promotional clips have heightened expectations for the May 5, 2017 release, they have also made us scratch our heads. Karen Gillan's Nebula served as an antagonist in Guardians of the Galaxy, but she seems to have somehow become a part of the team in the upcoming sequel. How did that happen?
We may not have the definitive answer to that, but Gillan has shed some light on the matter by explaining what Nebula has been up to and where we’ll find her when the James Gunn flick begins. Comic Book visited the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set, and the 29-year-old actress revealed the following:
She’s on a mission to sort of rectify that because she’s missing a hand"¦She’s also on a mission to find Gamora and rectify a few things there, as well, and we’re going to find out a lot about their backstory and learn a lot about Thanos’ parenting skills and maybe how dysfunctional the entire thing is. So we’re going to chip away at those layers, which is really fun.
According to Karen Gillan, we’ll understand Nebula's motivation and feel some empathy for her in the upcoming sequel. However, don't expect her to pull a total turnaround:
I hope people will understand her a little bit more. But"¦her default is very pissed off and that’s not going to change.
This pretty much falls in line with what Zoe Saldana shared back in last July while talking about the "volatile" relationship between the two adopted daughters of Josh Brolin's Thanos. She said that Nebula is "still in that teen-y f*cking shit (and is) just resentful and bitter"!
