Yesterday, writer/director James Gunn shared a new concept art piece for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, featuring not only the five members of the spacefaring superhero team from the original movie, but also three newer members. Of course, not all of the three will make their first appearance in the upcoming May 5, 2017 release.
While Pom Klementieff's Mantis is a new face in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have already seen Michael Rooker's Yondu and Karen Gillan's Nebula causing some trouble for the Guardians in the first movie. Now, they are part of the family.
In a recent interview with IGN, Zoe Saldana (Gamora) offers insight on the relationship between the two siblings - her character and Nebula.
According to the actress, through Gillan's character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we will start latching on to "how terrible life must have been to grow up with a crazy stepfather" like Thanos. She adds:
Nebula is still in that teen-y, f*****g hateful s**t. She's just resentful and bitter. Gamora, everything she does is trying to gain redemption for what she'd done before. That's where you're going to find her and then, obviously, their relationship is very volatile.
James Gunn has made it clear a number of times that Josh Brolin's character will not appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
However, from what Zoe Saldana says, it seems like we will definitely feel the Mad Titan's presence in the fifteenth MCU installment. According to the 38-year-old actress:
We're starting somewhere very crazy, but appropriate, given where we had ended things off in the first installment. So Thanos is definitely spoken about - not highly.
During the interview, Saldana also confirmed her July 23 appearance at San Diego Comic-Con International 2016 as part of the Marvel Studios panel.
The director has already confirmed that they will show some footage from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 during their Hall H presentation, but they won't release it online anytime soon.
