This may not have been the original plan, but details about the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 have turned up online following a recent initial screening. There are quite a few reveals to talk about, the most interesting of which concerns the identity of Sylvester Stallone's character, which has been one of the movie’s biggest mysteries, especially since James Gunn said that Stallone’s character was a pretty important one. So check out who Stallone is playing. And, obviously, get ready for a huge spoiler!
James Gunn said that Stallone’s character would have a rather minor role in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, but he added that the role would become more significant in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe as more movies were released. The first rumors said that he would play a Ravager, but others said that he would play Stakar, also known as Starhawk (a character from the comics with connections to both the Ravagers and the Guardians of the Galaxy).
And we’ve just learned that Sylvester Stallone will indeed play Stakar, a Ravager who has a very complicated relationship with Yondu, one of the new additions to the Guardians:
Stakar had banished Yondu many years earlier for doing something wrong, and he finally sees him almost twenty years later at this particular establishment called the Iron Lotus, where all of the Ravagers go to blow off some steam. And then we have a confrontation which is pretty intense, and it's kind of a father/son type of thing, and now he's going to have to pay the piper. His karma has come back ten-fold. (via Screen Rant)
We can’t wait to learn more about this movie adaptation of Starhawk! What do you think?
Also: Based on Stakar’s history, Michael Rosenbaum could be playing Quasar. Do you sense a Captain Marvel connection, too?
