While today you are fired up about Captain America: Civil War, which releases in less than three weeks, I would bet you will feel the same way on this day next year about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2! This is because the band of spacefaring anti-heroes will be arriving at theaters with the fifteenth Marvel Cinematic Universe installment on May 5, 2017!
The movie is currently filming in Atlanta, where the Atlanta Film Festival is also taking place. James Gunn, who is the writer and the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – as he was of the original movie – attended the event with Yondu actor Michael Rooker. And during a Q&A session (via Comic Book), he suggested that the upcoming sequel is a much bigger, but at the same time more intimate, movie compared to his 2014 blockbuster. Here's what Gunn says:
It’s been a lot of hard work, honestly. It’s a much bigger film. Also, at the same time, a much more intimate film, more character-driven in certain ways, so it’s just a lot of work. And everybody has been on their game.
James Gunn praises new additions to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2!
While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has stars like Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Karen Gillian, all of whom are returning from the first movie, it has also signed a number of actors to portray new characters. We learned about two of them recently.
The Hateful Eight star Kurt Russell and Oldboy star Pom Klementieff were confirmed a while ago for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While the former is set to portray Peter Quill's father, the latter will play the popular superhero Mantis. And James Gunn is vastly impressed with what the two are doing:
The new cast members…Kurt Russell has been incredible. And Pom Klementieff, who plays a new Guardian [Mantis] has been just…she blows me away. She’s really been perfect.
This isn't the first time he has spoken highly of Kurt and Pom. He’s done that before while teasing a couple of "jaw-dropping" scenes.
