Evans on Captain America: Civil War – Cap is the Focus!

Cap is the focus in Captain America: Civil War !

The cast roster of Captain America: Civil War is filled with a bunch of heavyweight names from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, prompting many to refer to it as Avengers 2.5! How can a movie with so many superheroes be called a particular superhero's standalone flick? Well, Chris Evans definitely thinks that it is indeed a Captain America movie, rather than an Avengers movie. That's because the focus of the movie is his character - not the clash between Team Cap and Team Iron Man.

In an interview published in the spring issue of Disney twenty-three, the Steve Rogers cast stated (via Yahoo Movies):

Even though there are a lot characters, the focus is on Steve and his struggle. Especially his struggle with Tony Stark.

Evans finds it exciting to see that someone as "optimistic" and "selfless" as his character faces "letdown, betrayal, frustration, and selfishness". He added:

There are events and people in his life that test him "” that challenge him and force him to reevaluate who he is and what he wants out of life.

Captain America: Civil War twists are character-based!

In the magazine article, Joe Russo, one of the two Captain America: Civil War directors, helps us differentiate between the twists in the second and third installments of the Captain America film series. He explained:

The turns in the movie are character-based. The twists are character-based. Winter Soldier was based more on the twisting plot. This one twists on character.

Previous MCU movies provided clues to Civil War!

The magazine article also features words from Marvel President Kevin Feige, who claims that the events of Captain America: Civil War didn’t just come up all of a sudden. He believes that the earlier MCU flicks have led us to this mega-event. Here's what Feige said:

We've seen it coming. The clues were there. When you watch the other films, you see how Captain America and Iron Man fight the bad guys together, back-to-back, but they have differences. And there is something that happens in the world that divides them.

Well, we know that, don't we? The Sokovia Accords come into play for the things that happened in Avengers: Age of Ultron. And in that movie, we witnessed quite a heated exchange of words between Cap and Tony.
