Doctor Strange: Dark Dimension Confirmed

Dormammu

From the first moment the Doctor Strange movie was announced, everybody started talking about one of Stephen Strange's most well-known enemies: Dormammu. Then it was officially announced that Chiwetel Ejiofor will portray Baron Mordo, a former student of The Ancient One and the most well-known human enemy of the same Sorcerer Supreme.

Of course, Mordo is also known for having conspired with the aforementioned Dormammu against the Ancient One and Strange. Do things added up?

Not really, since then Mads Mikkelsen was cast and the official description of his character says that he is a powerful sorcerer with his own followers, who "believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through." (find out more in here) And that surely doesn't sound as a description of Dormammu. Or does it?

During an interview with empire magazine, Kevin Feige spoke about the realms visited by Doctor Strange in his first solo outing. And, among these realms, the Sorcerer Supreme will also visit the Dark Dimension, which is ruled (in the comics, at least) by Dormammu: "We see glimpses of something called the Dark Dimension. But if you were to open a Doctor Strange comic drawn by Steve Ditko, you would see the Dark Dimension is, in fact, very colorful in an extremely psychedelic way. Those are the things we’re not shying away from." (via Comic Book Movie)

So what does that mean? Well, this could be the set-up for future Doctor Strange movie, since we will only catch glimpses of the Dark Dimension this year. And this also opens up the possibility for other characters to appear, leaving the powerful Lord of Chaos for further down the road. For example, Umar is a possibility - after all, we don't know which character is portrayed by Amy Landecker.

What do you think? Will we see any Dark Dimension malevolent beings this year?
