The latest installment in the MCU, Doctor Strange, will arrive at the beginning of November. Marvel has screened 15 minutes from the film, and people are already saying that this will be another hit from the studio. Of course, there are also those who say that Disney has become too reliant on a certain formula, and that the movie might suffer from this (especially since Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange has been compared to Robert Downey, Jr.'s Tony Stark), but if it ain't broke"¦
Thus, the buzz has been slowly building, ever since the first interviews came out, with the focus of the marketing campaign being on the visuals of the movie. After the preview, this was the most talked about aspect of the film. So how will Doctor Strange perform at the box office, given all of this?
According to Deadline, Doctor Strange is set to win its opening weekend. The movie is set to make anywhere between $55 million and $75 million in the US alone. To be noted, this is just the low estimate, since the buzz will certainly build up even more, with Doctor Strange being released in other markets before it’s released in the US.
We can say that Ant-Man debuted last year with about $57 million and ended up with $520 million worldwide. Given the fact that Doctor Strange is a relatively unknown property for the casual moviegoers, we can believe that it will attract roughly the same amount before it ends its run in the theaters.
Besides Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (November 18) and Moana (November 23), there is hardly any competition for the movie in November. Sure, Villeneuve's Arrival and Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge will also be released this month, but it cannot be said that their target audiences are the same as Marvel and Disney's.
