While Deadpool 2 is set to introduce new characters like Cable and Domino, it will also bring back Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Dopinder from the original movie.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the screenwriters for last year's R-rated superhero blockbuster and its upcoming sequel, recently teased "a lot of characters" for Deadpool 2 and offered an update on when production would kick off. Now, in two more recent interviews, they’ve confirmed the return of the three supporting characters.
While speaking to Collider's Steve Weintraub, Reese and Wernick admitted that Stefan Kapicic's Colossus and Brianna Hildebrand's Negasonic Teenage Warhead would be in the sequel. However, it doesn't look like their roles will be as significant as they were in the original.
PAUL WERNICK: I can't say how much they are"¦
RHETT REESE: I think we can say. Yeah, they'll be in the sequel.
WERNICK: Yeah, they'll make at least an appearance.
In a separate interview with Nerdist, the scribes made it clear that Karan Soni will reprise Dopinder in Deadpool 2. Wernick said:
I would say that the relationship between Dopinder and Deadpool was the most fun for me. I love that relationship and I love that character. And he'll be in the sequel.
Considering the fact that Cable and Domino are appearing in the sequel, it makes sense that Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead would have less significant roles. After all, the first priority should be to protect the Merc with a Mouth from becoming a secondary character in his own movie.
Dopinder didn't have much to do in the original movie, but the chemistry between him and Ryan Reynolds' titular character was equally, if not more, entertaining than that between T.J. Miller's Weasel and Deadpool. So, we're glad that the two mutants and the taxi driver are coming back. We also hope that Leslie Uggams' Blind Al will also be invited to join the sequel.
