After losing director Tim Miller over creative differences, it seemed that Deadpool 2 would be delayed. Furthermore, the fans had every reason to be anxious, since writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick provided no script updates for quite a while. Keeping in mind the fact that the first Deadpool was the result of a number of years of writing and struggling to find producers and studio backing, maybe it would have been for the better if Deadpool 2 were delayed.
However, most recently, during an interview with Deadline, the aforementioned writers said that everything is going according to plan. Deadpool 2 will start shooting this year, for a rumored 2018 release date. Here’s the full quote:
Yeah, it'll be a solo movie. It'll be populated with a lot of characters, but it is still Deadpool's movie, this next one. We're pushing forward very hard. I think by every account we will shoot it this year, and we're on our multiple draft now. It's taken different twists and turns, but it's really coalescing, and we're very, very excited. We're a little nervous, because now we feel like we have to live up to the first movie, but at the same time, we have to have faith, and we have an extreme passion still, and as long as we have passion still, and it's not a mercenary, venal play, which we don't think this is, I think we'll be in good shape.
Currently, the studio is searching for actors to play both Cable and Domino. However, nothing’s been said about superheroes who might return from the previous flick (Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead).
At this moment, Deadpool 2 is rumored to be released on the 2nd of March 2018. It’s safe to say that this deadline won't be met (thus, the rumor is false).
