For a while now, we've been speculating about who would portray Nathan Summers, aka Cable, in Deadpool 2. Actors like Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, and Dolph Lundgren have expressed their interest in playing the time-traveling mutant, but it looks as though 20th Century Fox is eyeing someone else for the role.
Mashable's Jeff Sneider appeared on the latest episode of Meet the Movie Press, and he dropped the actor's name that has been circulating in connection with the Deadpool sequel's Cable role for a while now. According to the veteran correspondent, Zero Dark Thirty and The Wolf of Wall Street star Kyle Chandler has been the top contender for the role.
However, Jeff insists that you take this with "a gigantic grain of salt", since he hasn't made calls about it, and is unsure whether it has changed more recently.
Chandler may not appear to be a very muscular guy, but he stands at six feet, one inch. So, it wouldn't be inaccurate to say that he's got the frame to be considered for Cable in Deadpool 2. The 50-year-old actor's performance in the Netflix series Bloodline also speaks for his potential to nail it as the character.
While Cable's appearance in Deadpool 2 has already been confirmed, there's another mutant who is rumored to be introduced. The character we are talking about is Neena Thurman, aka Domino.
According to Jeff Sneider, Domino will not only feature in the Merc with a Mouth's second standalone movie, but she will also be its "scene stealer". And the actress being eyed for the role is That Awkward Moment and The Martian star Mackenzie Davis.
The 29-year-old Canadian actress may not be first name that comes to your mind for Domino, but she's been steadily flourishing in Hollywood. So we can't say she's a bad choice for the role.
But it remains to be seen whether Fox eventually lands these two actors as Cable and Domino. With filming expected to kick off next year, we might not have to wait for too long to come across official announcements.
