Last October, we learned that Urban Hymn and Doctor Who star Letitia Wright had landed a role in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther. Marvel Studios officially announced the full cast roster in January, confirming Wright's casting, but not disclosing which character she would play. The studio has finally revealed her role, and it's not a minor one.
During their Walt Disney Studios' presentation at CinemaCon last night, Walt Disney Studios displayed a graphic that showed the main cast of Black Panther, along with the names of their characters. The name that appeared with the Guyanese-born British actress' photo is Shuri, who is the younger sister of Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa. Thanks to Ain't It Cool's Eric Vespe, we have a photo of the graphic, so check out below!
Lupita Nyong'o and Danai Gurira were confirmed as Nakia and Okoye, so many fans had already surmised that Wright would portray the Wakandan princess. The 23-year-old actress seemed to be the only cast member who fit the role.
Reginald Hudlin and John Romita, Jr. introduced Shuri in Marvel Comics’ Black Panther Vol. 4 #2 of May 2005. In the August 2009 issue Black Panther Vol. 5 #5, she became the first female to take up the mantle of Black Panther. Letitia Wright's version of the character might do the same in the Marvel Cinematic Universe someday, although perhaps not anytime soon.
It was reported in February that a massive chase sequence for the February 16, 2018 release would be shot in Busan, South Korea. Ryan Coogler and his team have been filming there for the last ten days, and photos snapped by onlookers have been appearing online since they began. We now have an official first look at the car chase from Walt Disney Company Korea. Check it out below!
