Rumor: Adi Shankar in the Running for Venom Director's Chair!

Adi Shankar is reportedly a contender for taking the helm of Venom movie!

It’s been barely two weeks since Sony Pictures announced their live-action Venom movie, but the internet is already flooded with rumor and speculation about the project. The October 5, 2018 release lacks a director, but we’ve come across a new rumor about a possible potential candidate for the job.

Latino-Review founder and former editor-in-chief Kellvin Chavez, now with Splash Report, said that Adi Shankar is on the studio's radar to helm Venom. Shankar, who has yet to make his feature-film directorial debut, has served as executive producer for numerous big screen ventures, including The Grey, Dredd, and Lone Survivor.

Shankar produced the Venom-centric fan-film Truth in Journalism, as well as other Bootleg Universe shorts such as The Punisher: Dirty Laundry, Power/Rangers, and James Bond: In Service of Nothing.

Truth in Journalism's take on the alien symbiote is cherished by many, and it looks like Sony’s a fan, too. They reportedly intend to make Venom an R-rated movie in the Action/Horror/Sci-Fi genre. So, with Shankar rumored to be in contention for the director's chair, it feels safe to assume that the studio is trying to come up with an unorthodox approach to adapting the iconic Spider-Man foe.

Cameras are expected to start rolling for Venom this fall, and the studio can't afford any delays if they want to keep to the scheduled release date.  Whether it's Adi Shankar or some other filmmaker, a deal will most likely be made and revealed within a few weeks.

The studio is currently in possession of a script penned by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. The movie won't be connected to Spider-Man: Homecoming or the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
