Avengers: Infinity War Inches Closer to $2 Billion

Avengers: Infinity War is as big as expected it to be. Currently, after six weeks in theaters, the movie’s box office take is inching ever closer to the $2 billion mark. When it reaches that milestone, it will join a very select club.

So far, that club is so exclusive that it has only three members: Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.068 billion), Titanic ($2.187 billion), and Avatar ($2.787 billion). It’s highly unlikely that Avengers: Infinity War will become the highest-grossing film of all time. But even if it fails to beat Titanic, it’s chances of surpassing The Force Awakens are fairly good.

At this moment, the latest Avengers film has amassed $1.998 billion worldwide, with $654 million of that made in the US. This makes it the fifth highest-grossing movie ever. Plus, only one other film has reached the $500 million mark in the domestic market as rapidly. To top it all off, Avengers: Infinity War’s US opening weekend was the best ever.

Other records set by Infinity War include becoming the fastest movie to earn one billion dollars worldwidethe sixth Marvel movie to do the same, and the highest-grossing superhero film ever. So it’s more than safe to say that it’s definitely fulfilled all of the studio’s ambitions.

Avengers: Infinity War will be available for digital download in July and on Blu-ray on August 14. Although the summer season is already well underway, we can expect it to remain in theaters for some time.

Following the release of Avengers: Infinity War, we’ll see Ant-Man and the Wasp on July 6. The events of the Ant-Man sequel and 2019's Captain Marvel will take place those of Infinity War.

It will be interesting to see what effect those two movies have on Avengers 4, which will roll into theaters on May 3, 2019.
