Reshoots seem to be a necessity among today’s tent-pole movies, and Avengers 4 is no exception. We have news about when the movie’s reshoots will take place, but first, here’s some history.
The third and fourth Avengers installments were originally titled Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2. Marvel Studios later changed Part 1 to Avengers: Infinity War, but let Part 2 stand for the time being. This was done so they could market them as two separate movies, as opposed to two segments of a single release.
The studio did decide to stick with their original plan when it came to shooting the two movies back-to-back, filming Infinity War during the first half of 2017 and Avengers 4 immediately after that.
Omega Underground's Christopher Marc recently reported that the May 3, 2019 release requires reshoots that are likely to take a few months. He added that filming will begin in the coming weeks and continue until September 1. This leaves the Russo Brothers and their visual effects team with just over eight months to complete the CGI and other post-production chores.
According to Marc, the Avengers 4 reshoots will take place in Atlanta and New York City, but the Daily Record indicated that cast and crew will be in Edinburgh and Glasgow to complete some additional photography.
While the need for months of reshoots is often seen as a sign of behind-the-scenes issues, it’s unlikely that this is what’s happening here. Like Infinity War, the massive Avengers 4 cast includes a number of Hollywood A-Listers with jam-packed schedules. It’s possible that in order to accommodate everyone, the reshoots are spread out over a period of months.
