Warner Bros. and DC Studios have released a brand new trailer for the Supergirl movie. The studio released a teaser trailer in December, which offered up our first look at Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El in her solo feature debut in the DC Universe. Now? We’re getting a better idea of what this galactic adventure is going to look like. Check it out for yourself below.
This trailer confirms that David Corenswet will appear as Superman. Though it doesn’t seem like he’s going to have a large role. We also get a much better look at Jason Momoa as the villain Lobo. Not to reach for low-hanging fruit, but there are some Guardians of the Galaxy vibes here. It appears to have a very different tone from James Gunn’s Superman from last summer.
Here is the synopsis for Supergirl.
“When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.”
James Gunn and Peter Safran are heading up DC Studios and are in the midst of their bold DCU reboot. That began in earnest with Superman last year. This year will also see the release of the Clayface movie in September. Further expanding the universe will be Lanterns on HBO later this summer. That will introduce both Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) to fans.
Meanwhile, Gunn is also gearing up to begin filming Man of Tomorrow, his Superman sequel. It is due to hit theaters in summer 2027. To what degree the impending Paramount purchase of Warner Bros. impacts Gunn and Safran’s future plans for the DC franchise remains to be seen. Should the deal close, it likely will by the time Man of Tomorrow arrives. We’ll undoubtedly know more by then.
Craig Gillespie (Cruella) is in the director’s chair for Supergirl. Ana Nogueira penned the screenplay. Gunn and Safran are on board as producers with Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo and Lars P. Winther serving as executive producers. The cast also includes Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze and Ferdinand Kingsley as Elias Knoll.
Supergirl hits theaters on June 26.
