For about a year now, the rumor was that Doomsday will be the villain fought in the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a fight which will dwarf the one between Superman and Zod. And now, yet again, a new scoop confirms that this will be the case and that DC's trinity will indeed clash with the unkillable Kryptonian genetic experiment.
The thing was that nobody knew how this iconic character will be brought into the fold - will it be a genetic experiment from Krypton? Will it be a Lex Luthor puppet? Will it be just another generic villain?
Well, Comic Book has come up with this scoop which says the story from Man of Steel will be the one that brings Doomsday"¦
Zod and the Doomsday Gene
The website says that the corpse of Z0d is acquired by Lex Luthor in some way - it isn't too difficult to believe that Luthor actually has the means of acquiring the body by legal means. Of course, the purpose is to experiment on the body and find out what weaknesses all the Kryptonians have.
But something goes wrong during these genetic experiments and the scientists trigger the Doomsday gene in Zod - Zod comes back to life as this new and iconic character which has killed Superman in the comics.
A departure from the canon?
Sure thing - and this isn't the first one and it won't be the last time when a director chooses to distinguish his/her work from another's. Even more, this origin story for Doomsday from the corpse of Zod makes much more sense in the DCCU created with Man of Steel. This newly created universe lacks the lore which could help us understand Doomsday.
So, in a way, the death of Zod influenced the fate of Superman in a different way than previously believed.
