Zack Snyder Talks Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Zack Snyder

While there are less than 3 months until the release of Batman v Superman is released, the marketing campaign for the film is still a bit slouchy, with very few interviews with the main cast. Most recently, Zack Snyder had a chat with Obsev about the upcoming film, in which he touched just a few subjects.

But that is more than enough for us to reach a conclusion. In this way, besides the obvious promotional tone of the interview (which wasn't in any way about Batman v Superman), Zack Snyder talked about the plans for a trilogy, working with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, as well as the fans' reactions upon casting the Dark Knight.

First things first, Zack Snyder may be said to care less about what people say than what people believe. As he said, when creating something one needs to reduce the outside noise and focus on his own opinions. In other words, in the creative process what counts isn't what the others believe, but what the creator (in this case, Zack Snyder) does.

So when he says that Batman v Superman is, in the end, a drama and not just another superhero flick, we can only believe him. And what does that mean? It means that the spectacle of CGI and other effects will come second to the character development - which is a good thing, if you ask us. After all, we do want to know why is Bruce so paranoid, how can Clark Kent be manipulated, and what is the secret endgame of Lex Luthor. Ultimately, we want to find out how the former two can be convinced to work one with another after coming to blows - and it can't be just the appearance of a bigger threat (this would be a total letdown for us).

As far as the plans for a trilogy are concerned, this can be possible, but only when thinking about Batman v Superman as the first Justice League movie (which, in a way, is) - as Zack Snyder puts it, this year's movie is just the beginning of that trilogy. And right now we are wondering who will be the main antagonist/the main baddie of this trilogy of movies (we do hope that there is just one and not a couple of disposable villains). He does say, after all, that there is a bigger enemy to fight"¦

Zack Snyder also said that working with Affleck and Cavill was great, since both of them were enthusiastic, no matter how difficult it may have been at times. As far as Batman is concerned, the director said that Ben Affleck is great and not just because of his acting skills - but also because of the physical work he put into the role (and, boy, there is a shot in the first trailer, when we see Bruce working out - and he is literally a monster).
