Wonder Woman on Track for a $175 Million+ Debut at Global Box Office!

Wonder Woman eyeing a massive $175 million-plus global debut!

Critics have fallen in love with Wonder Woman, and it’s likely that the world’s moviegoers will embrace the movie in a similar manner. It appears that the first female superhero movie in more than a decade could pull off an opening weekend of above $175 million at the worldwide box office.

Last month, we came across a report suggesting that Wonder Woman would bring in around $83 million during its opening weekend in North America. And earlier this month, projections were all over the map, ranging from $65 million to $105 million. With just a couple of days remaining before the movie rolls into theaters, Deadline reports that a $65-75 million domestic debut seems within reach.

However, the outlet also projects that the Patty Jenkins flick could something north of $95 million for its North American debut, as long as it maintains a strong Rotten Tomatoes score. So far, the review aggregator has counted 71 reviews, with only two "rotten" verdicts, meaning a 97 percent approval rating for the movie. But movies like this typically file more than 250 reviews on RT, and it needs to earn a "certified fresh" status (which is likely to happen with the eightieth review).

According to Deadline, Wonder Woman’s debut in 55 international territories could reach $92-118 million, with a "comfortable projection" of $100 million. The markets comprise of 72 percent of the world outside of North America, and include key players like the UK, China, Russia, South Korea, and Brazil.

In comparison with previous DC Extended Universe installments Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, a $175 million global debut seems low. However, it's significantly more than the total haul for Supergirl (1984), Catwoman (2004), and Elektra (2005) combined. So there's no doubt that Warner Bros. would love those numbers.
