Here’s some good news for Wonder Woman fans! Although we still don't know whether Patty Jenkins will return as director, we do know that Gal Gadot will return in December 2019 for the Amazonian Princess’ second solo DCEU adventure!
The Wonder Woman 2 film was officially announced at this year's San Diego Comic Con, but the announcement didn’t include the release date. However, The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Warner Bros. has set December 13, 2019 as the film’s release date.
Obviously, at the moment, we don't know what competition Wonder Woman 2 will face at the theaters. But the first installment was almost universally praised by critics, fans, and casual moviegoers, so we have no doubt that it will be able to dominate the competition for at least one weekend at the US box office.
Wonder Woman 2 will be 2019’s second DC Extended Universe movie. The first, Shazam!, was also announced at the 2017 SDCC, and is scheduled for the 8th of March 2019. We haven’t seen a casting announcement for this flick yet, although we know that the titular character won't face Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson).
In regard to the Wonder Woman 2 plot, Patty Jenkins said that she'd like to have it set in a post-Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice time frame. However, other sources have reported that Wonder Woman 2 will take place in the 1990's, well before the events that kick-started the DCEU.
Now we're just waiting for the studio to officially announce that Patty Jenkins will direct the sequel!
