Black Adam Update

It appears that Dwayne Johnson is unstoppable. His movies may not win Academy Awards, but he’s certainly one of today’s most bankable actors. And DCEU fans are definitely happy that he’s about to star in the Black Adam movie.

Johnson was originally announced as a main antagonist in Shazam! But plans changed – as they often do – and the actor teased a solo project about the same supervillain in 2017. After that, the entire concept seem to just disappear, and we’ve heard nothing about it since.

This leaves us to wonder whether Black Adam followed all the other DCEU movies that are forever stuck in development hell. But Johnson says that that isn’t the case at all. With his incredibly busy schedule, it’s next to impossible for him to find time for another project:

Right now, it looks like early next year I'm going to be shooting Jumanji, and then after that – if everything goes well – I'll shoot a movie called Red Notice with Rawson Thurber…Gal Gadot, and another actor yet to be named. But Black Adam possibly at the end of next year. It's coming along great; the script is coming along great, and we're very happy with it (via Screen Rant).

Jumanji was a huge box office hit, and a sequel was inevitable. Then came Rampage and Skyscraper. And then there is the actor’s other project. On top of all that, he also works on various projects as a producer. So it’s really no surprise that we’ll have to wait a while for Black Adam!

Fans were fairly certain that Black Adam would make an appearance in Shazam!, but Johnson put that notion to rest:

I’m not in that one. It’s Shazam and Black Adam and, with the way the DC universe works, we should "” in theory "” meet up on the big screen. But who knows (via Comic Book).

Johnson also hinted that additional DC superheroes would appear in his solo movie:

Without giving anything away, there MIGHT be a cameo or two of some of the other DC superheroes. We'll see. The beauty of Black Adam as we've been developing it is that we could make a movie that just stood on its own as well. But that's also the beauty of those universes coming together at DC.

It’s good to know that Black Adam is going to happen at some point!

Dwayne Johnson's Skyscraper hit theaters on July 13, 2018.
