While he said time and time again that he would direct the upcoming Batman solo flick, Ben Affleck recently stepped down, saying that playing such a huge role would require his full focus (he'll still produce, though). Warner Bros. was aiming for a late 2018 release, but the movie will certainly be delayed until a new director is found.
The fans have named quite a few possibilities, and George Miller is the front-runner. Sure, this is what the fans want, and apparently not what the studio has in mind. Warner Bros. has named Matt Reeves (War of the Planet of the Apes) as their first choice. And, ultimately, the fans have quite a lot to say.
Most recently, some of the fans have petitioned for a particular director for the Batman solo flick - a very well-known director (if not for the best reasons) among DCEU fans. This director is Zack Snyder, even though Warner Bros. scrapped its previous plans and announced that Snyder won't direct the second Justice League flick.
If Warner Bros. goes this route, this will certainly mark another controversial choice on their part. While Watchmen is regarded by many as a faithful graphic novel adaptation (for the most part), Snyder isn't exactly known for being an acclaimed storyteller. After all, his Sucker Punch was a critical and commercial disaster.
And seeing that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice didn't make the money it was expected to make, and it was mauled by the critics, what are the chances that he’ll get another shot with the DCEU?
It remains to be seen how Justice League will perform this year. But by that time it will be too late, especially if Warner Bros. wants to fast-track The Batman.
So what do you think? Is Zack Snyder a good choice for directing Batman's first solo outing in the DCEU?
