In 2017, Diana Prince injected new hope into the DC Extended Universe. However, she just couldn't save Justice League, and the Zack Snyder/Joss Whedon movie turned out to be a major disappointment at the box office. So it’s not surprising that the studio opted to schedule just one DCEU movie for 2018.
Thankfully, that single movie will be Aquaman, directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa in a role that couldn’t be a more perfect fit. As the actor said during a recent interview with the Daily Mail, he relates to Arthur Curry, who doesn't feel at home anywhere because he’s half Atlantean, half human (Momoa was born in Hawaii and raised in Iowa).
Aquaman’s principal photography wrapped in October 2017. Since then, Wan and Momoa have provided tidbits about the movie, with James Wan debunking the rumor that Aquaman would face three major villains. We were also treated to our first glimpse of Momoa in character (see photo above).
Most recently, James Wan posted this behind-the-scenes photo showing just how much time was spent perfecting even the smallest detail:
Happy New Year from the Deep! Here's to a great 2018. pic.twitter.com/xh1GmJMGas

It also appeared that the pic teased Aquaman's hook/hand from the comics. But that’s a huge detail to divulge at this point, and in response to a fan’s question, James Wan said that wasn’t the case.

To be honest, Aquaman has quite a long history, so the decision to have him lose his arm in his first movie would be a weird one.
All of this build-up has us looking forward to enjoying Arthur Curry's first solo big-screen adventure on December 21, 2018.
