The Unite the Seven tagline was one of the biggest teases of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice marketing campaign. Prior to the movie’s release, it was rumored that this meant that the Justice League would be composed of seven superheroes. We already knew that the team would include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg. We heard over and over that we’d have to wait until 2020 to see Green Lantern, so who was the missing superhero?
Warner Bros. eventually dropped the tagline, but a couple of core DCEU superheroes are still missing. With so many projects delayed and announced, we aren't sure that the studio knows who that missing superhero is.
Justice League producer Charles Roven has already picked his favorite! During an interview with Comic Book Resources, the producers named some superheroes who deserve their own solo flicks, such as Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman. The producer added Green Lantern to the list, although we haven't heard a thing about a Green Lantern movie in quite some time.
Roven named his longtime favorite:
I wouldn't necessarily say that I would rather do that character, because we know that there is going to be a Flash movie, we know that Aquaman is being done. I think that Cyborg deserves his own movie too, and I know that the fans are out there screaming for Green Lantern, that's for sure. But I was always a fan of J'onn J'onzz, Manhunter from Mars.
When the first DCEU movie slate was announced, the Martian Manhunter was the most notable absence. Warner Bros. is currently struggling to find a direction for the DCEU, and the Flashpoint announcement is a strong indication that the shared universe is heading toward a soft reboot.
So you never know! Maybe the Martian Manhunter will finally make his way onto the big screen!
