Those who say that DC is slouching as far as the Batman v Superman marketing campaign is concerned should peel their eyes and read the latest interview with Lex Luthor, one of the main antagonists of next year's Justice League prequel. Portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg, the character makes quite a few reveals, among which the most interesting are the existence of other superheroes in the DCEU (besides the Justice League members, of course).
Jesse Eisenberg might be the weirdest choice for this role. But reading on it feels like he nails the character. And, just like Ben Affleck said, this will be a unique and show-stealing performance. He is adamant about his principles, he is rather down to earth in his convictions, and while he is the main beneficiary of his own plans he lets everybody know that it isn't so.
The most interesting thing is that he sees himself as one of the saviors (if not THE savior) of Earth and humanity itself. He is all for a collaboration between the government and the private sector into order to combat any threats - obviously, Lex refers to Superman. At the same time, he believes that Batman is obsolete - just like any form of vigilantism, for that matter.
And the DCEU slowly becomes more cohesive through his words - since he mentions ARGUS and, most likely, Amanda Waller: "I'm ready to sit down with whatever task force the government has assembled "” in the interest of sharing intelligence and building solutions together. If she"¦ they"¦ Argus"¦ the government, whatever you want to call it, has a real interest in fighting for the future, they ought to work with those of us who are already on the front lines."
Of course, Waller is known to appear in the Suicide Squad, the other DC flick to come next year. And, of course, it was expected for her to bring ARGUS with her. But having this character mentioned by Lex Luthor makes us further believe that he will have a hand in the creation of the Suicide Squad. Remember that pic with Jared Leto sporting a Superman tank top?
Lex Luthor and his company, as the interview says, are all about defense - preserving the future for the coming generations. And defense is also the government's domain. In this way, the article also presents a graph with the biggest R&D developers of defense technology for the government. And while the names of Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne were expected to be included, three other names also appear.
One other company which develops for the government is Kord Industries, which is owned and run by Ted Kord, also known as the superhero Blue Beetle. This superhero was also hinted at in the first article dedicated to Lex Luthor, Kord Industries being mentioned as the biggest charitable corporation. Having Ted Kord mentioned two times makes us believe that Blue Beetle is indeed coming on the big screens.
Another corporation is Stagg Enterprises - which is owned by Simon Stagg. While he may seem an irrelevant character, he is known for his connection with the Metal Men - and this is another rumored DC property Warner Bros intends to adapt.
Next there is Queen Industries - and it becomes even clearer how many superheroes/vigilantes exist in the DCEU. Obviously, everybody knows that this company is owned by Oliver Queen, also known as Green Arrow.
Lastly, there is the presumably German company Geschäft Krieg - mentioned on this list because it acquisitioned Sheridan Dynamics. What is the deal with this German company? We have no idea. However, in Smallville, Dr. Alistair Krieg was the one responsible for the creation of Cyborg.
We believe that Warner Bros has great plans for Lex Luthor. We have no idea how he'll lose his hair, but we can bet that we will see him in quite a few other DC movies in the next years.
