It’s no secret that Warner Bros. and the DC Extended Universe have received a lot of bad press originating as far back as Man of Steel. While nothing that’s been said has ever been officially confirmed, the internet’s been ablaze with negative rumors about the movies and the studio's decisions. These rumors have actually increased since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released.
We thought Suicide Squad would put the shared universe on the right track, in spite of the rumors of studio interference that popped up all over the place. As it happened, the rumors were true, and the movie’s third act made no sense whatsoever.
We should stress the fact that all of the negative press the DCEU has received has been based on rumor. It would be an understatement to say that the studio hasn’t been able to handle such a massive amount of baseless gossip.
Sure, things were okay for a while, as Wonder Woman was a hit from every point of view. However, with Zack Snyder's departure, we’re seeing rumors suggesting massive Justice League reshoots that will completely change the film’s story.
But all is not lost, because DCEU and DC Films co-runner Geoff Johns and director Joss Whedon have taken the time to address the rumors:
Thank you @geoffjohns for asking me to reshoot the entire Justice League movie, I’m honored
"” Joss Whedon (@josswhed0n) June 15, 2017
Obviously, the sarcasm is strong with this one. And Johns' response is even stronger:
Did I mention we’re going to put Spider-Man and Scooby Doo in it? https://t.co/ayKbTrGPeW
"” Geoff Johns (@geoffjohns) June 15, 2017
While it’s difficult to envision the Marvel-owned Spider-Man in the DCEU, Warner Bros. owns Scooby-Doo. So it’s in the realm of possibility. Right?
What can we take from this? Well, we should wait for official word, and take each rumor with a grain of salt. We’ll see how it all turns out when Justice League is released on the 17th of November.
News Flash: Whedon has revealed who will portray Batgirl:
I’d like to announce that I’m pulling an Affleck on the Batgirl movie, so not only am I directing/writing it but I’m also playing Batgirl
"” Joss Whedon (@josswhed0n) June 15, 2017
Awesome choice, right?
